Astral

A decompiler that turns binaries into readable C. Built on Ghidra’s native core, with a command-line interface and C, C++, and Rust bindings.

C / C++ / RustGhidra core · no JVM2.3.0 source snapshot

Apple Silicon Mac

A ready-to-run command-line build for macOS 13+. Includes the decompiler and processor specifications. No compiler needed. Not notarized.

Extract the archive, then run this inside the extracted folder:

sh install.sh
~/.local/bin/astral --help

The installer uses ~/.local. You can also run ./bin/astral directly from the folder.

Build from source

macOS and Linux. Downloads verified source and builds the command-line tools and libraries on your computer.

Needs CMake 3.20+, a C++17 compiler, Cargo, and zlib development headers. Installs under ~/.local.

curl -fLO https://gideoncox.com/downloads/astral-install.sh
sh astral-install.sh
Desktop app & install options

Add --gui to build the desktop app; Qt 6 development libraries must already be installed. Use --prefix /absolute/path for another location, or --jobs 2 to limit build parallelism.

The Mac bundle above contains the CLI, not the desktop GUI. Windows users can build the command-line version inside WSL.

Source verification

Pinned public revision: 07cd79bb. The installer checks the archive’s SHA-256 before building. Read the installer.

Use it

~/.local/bin/astral --help
~/.local/bin/astral decompile --all ./program

Astral can learn function names from binaries and source, explain its naming choices, and expose the decompiler as a library. Full documentation ↗
